Yes, you can. And honestly? It is one of the most common questions we get.
Most magnetic screens you find in big-box stores come in one size. They suit a single door that is roughly 36 to 38 inches wide. That's fine, until your doorway isn't. French doors. A wide patio slider. A garage you turned into a workshop. An old farmhouse frame that is a little crooked. We hear about all of them.
At Magnetic Mesh Screen, we build every screen to the size you send us. So, a large magnetic screen door is not a special favor. It's just what we do every day.
Why Won't a Standard Magnetic Screen Fit Your Wide or Double Door?
A ready-made screen has one panel and one magnetic seam down the middle. Stretch it across a wider gap and things go wrong fast.
- Gaps at the edges. Mosquitoes only need a sliver to sneak in.
- Weak closing. Magnets pulled too far apart won't snap shut.
- Sagging mesh. Too much slack, or too little, and the seam never lines up.
Taping two cheap screens together rarely works either. We've seen the photos. The middle flaps open with the first breeze.
How Big Can a Custom Magnetic Screen Door Be?
Pretty big. Our custom magnetic screens come in size ranges, and then you type your exact numbers into the order form.
| Measurement | Smallest Range | Largest Range on Our Order Page |
| Width (side to side) | Up to 40" | 300" to 350" |
| Length (top to bottom) | Up to 80" | 220" to 250" |
Need something even bigger? Email us. We'll talk it through.
Will a Magnetic Mosquito Net for a Door 6 Feet Wide Work?
It will, and it works well. Six feet is 72 inches. That sits in our 60" to 80" width range. Since it is under 85 inches, one magnetic opening in the center handles it nicely. This is the size we make most often for French doors and double patio doors.
How Does a Double Door Magnetic Screen Open and Close?
Here's the rule we build by: no part of the screen can run more than 85 inches without an opening. Wider screens simply get more magnetic seams.
| Screen Width | Fewest Openings | Most Openings |
| Up to 85" | 0 | 2 |
| 85" to 170" | 1 | 3 |
| 170" to 255" | 2 | 4 |
| 255" to 340" | 3 | 5 |
So, a double door magnetic screen can have one seam in the middle, or one seam behind each door. Your call.
Can the Opening Go Off-Center?
Yes. Maybe your dog always uses the left side. Maybe one door stays locked. Just tell us where you want each opening in the order notes at checkout, and we place it there. The only limit is that 85-inch rule.
How Do You Measure an Odd-Sized Doorway the Right Way?
This part matters most. We make the screen to the exact numbers you give us. We do not add anything.
- Measure the width of the opening, side to side.
- Measure the length, top to bottom.
- Add 2 inches to the length for the top Velcro strip.
- Add 1 inch to each side of the width for the side strips.
| Your Doorway | What to Add | Size to Order |
| 72" wide x 80" long | +2" width, +2" length | 74" x 82" |
| 150" wide x 96" long | +2" width, +2" length | 152" x 98" |
One honest note: a finished screen can be off by 2 to 3 cm. That's normal in sewing mesh, and the Velcro border covers it.
What If Your Frame Is Metal, Brick or Not Quite Square?
Non-standard often means a tricky frame. Here is how we handle it.
-
Smooth or painted frames: strong Velcro tape, no nails needed.
-
Wood frames: add the push pins we include for extra grip.
- Metal frames: we can put magnets along the top, the sides, or both. Check that magnets stick to your frame first.
-
Windy spots: bottom weights keep the mesh hanging straight.
Where Do Large Screens Make the Biggest Difference?
| Use Case | Why It Helps |
| Back patio slider in Houston or Tampa | Fresh Gulf air in, mosquitoes out on sticky summer nights |
| Screened porch in New Orleans | Covers wide gaps where old screens tore |
| Lake cabin in northern Minnesota | Keeps the famous swarms away from the kitchen |
| Garage workshop or gazebo | Lets you work in the breeze without flies |
| Van or RV side door | Easy airflow at the campsite |
